about the authors / illustrator

about ron kinscherf

Ron Kinscherf quit a 30 year career in IT Consulting with absolutely no idea for future employment. His daughter-in-law suggested he write children’s books based on the creative way he plays with his grandchildren. Not really taking the suggestion seriously, he got an idea and wrote a story. He got another idea...and another. He shared the stories with some local Quincy, Illinois authors who really liked the product. Long story, short...a business was born.

Kinscherf's style is for both the child and reader...understanding that the more the adult likes the book, the more likely it will get read again and again. His sense for dialogue and humor is interwoven throughout his works.

Kinscherf has a BA in Communications and worked in talk radio before starting his IT Consulting career. He is a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame for Outstanding Achievement in Play-by-Play. He is married for over 35 years with two children and four grandchildren.

about holly brogaard

Holly Brogaard is a family and child-focused artist who brings the kaleidoscope of her imagination to life on any blank canvas she can find; be it the pages of a book or a napkin at the coffee shop. Creating memorable art for children is one of her chosen vessels of expression. Her affection for art began at an early age with her first box of crayons and paint-by-numbers sets, and grew to encompass several media including illustration, painting, drawing, graphic design and a host of other instruments of artistic interpretation. Brogaard's passion for family and creative stylings translate the author's prose into a visual world of wonder, allowing the storyline to be enjoyed by the reader and their pint-sized sidekicks with fun and flair. From concept art and character design, to illustration, graphic design and 2D animation, her exceptional skill set makes her a perfect match for Kinscherf. He throws out the ideas and Brogaard catches them with grace, talent and a flourish of whimsy.

Brogaard has a B.A. in Art and Graphic Design and a B.S. in Media Arts and Animation. She looks forward to sharing these works with her two nephews and children of all ages.

about the project

The Baker’s Patio Series of books started pretty simply. Kinscherf was outside with his grandson on their brick patio. His grandson started smashing ant hills. Kinscherf felt a pang of guilt wondering how the ants felt about the situation. So he decided to write about it and a series of books was born.

During character creation, Kinscherf and Brogaard were trying to come up with something unique. Kinscherf remembered an old music video from the Norwegian band A-ha inspiring the stark contrast for the illustrations.
