AI or Not AI, That is a BIG Question

I have sold thousands of books. Not ten thousand but over 5000. I think. It’s tough to know. Which may sound funny but that is a story for another time.  But nonetheless, I am not profitable.

With all that said, back to AI. To market, I need to use social media. I need to attract people to my stories. I need to create videos and somehow integrate my characters.

I could pay someone to do that. I would love to. I would love the back and forth in idea creation.  But I do not have the budget to do so. However, I can utilize AI. I am the content creator, director, author, producer, just about everything. But instead of using a person to throw that together, I can use AI tools.

The question is … is that cheating? Am I taking $$ away from a graphic designer? Of course, I am.

AI is a threat to my industry. You can tell AI to write a book about this and that, and it will.  AI also scours the Internet finding my books and sending me scam emails trying to get funds from me for a variety of services.

So, if I use AI to help with my videos, am I feeding the beast?

Some recent information I dug up about the relationship between AI and Design Agencies… there has been a definite shift over the last couple of years …

Ultimately, the consensus among design agencies and academic institutions in 2026 is that "those who know how to use AI are vastly outperforming those who do not" (Nga, 2026). The human designer remains vital for cultural resonance, ethics, and emotional truth, but AI has become the engine that allows them to scale that creativity to meet the demands of modern social media (Olawore; Rosyida, 2025).

Other thoughts, there are people employed to run the AI tools I am using. At least I think there are. 😀

Also, was there this type of talk when cartoon animation went from hand drawn cells to using computers? What about the advancement of software packages over the last 25 years? Did animators and technicians that threw the stuff together lose their gigs with the advent of that technology? Are we entering a similar revolution?

Maybe I am telling myself that to make me feel better about what I am doing.

I’d love to get your opinion on this … send me a note at papatellmeabook@gmail.com.

And be on the lookout for news about upcoming book launches etc!
